Apart from exploring Valencia and all it has to offer, there are plenty of interesting towns and cities in the Valencian Community that are worth a visit! In this article, we’ll list some of the best places to visit in this region without having to go too far from the city:

Sagunto

This town is only 30km away from Valencia and it sports two of the biggest cultural attractions of the Valencian Community. One of them is Sagunto’s Castle at the top of the hill. This building is as old as the town itself and was used to protect Sagunto from invaders. The second attraction is Sagunto’s Roman Theatre. It was built back in 50 A.D. and guess what… they are still performing in it!

Xàtiva

Throughout its many monuments, Xàtiva shows us the historical relevance it has had throughout the years. The town has been an outstanding place for its cultural brilliance both during the Muslim and Christian periods. It’s difficult to highlight one monument over the others, but we definitely advise you to visit the Castle, which is located on the top of the mountain where it’s been a witness of many conflicts in different eras. We’ll let you in on an interesting fact: people from Xàtiva are called “socarrats” (the equivalent to “scorched” in Valencian) because of the big fire ordered by King Felipe V.

Peñiscola

This town is located in the province of Castellón, located north of Valencia and belonging to the Valencian Community. The peculiarity of this place arises from its geographical position, which is surrounding a rock peninsula only connected to the rest of the territory by a neck of land. This characteristic provides the town with an epic appearance and view. In fact, some scenes of the TV series Game of Thrones have been filmed in this spectacular landscape.

Vall d’Uixó (Cuevas de San Jose)

This town is well known for sporting the longest underground navigable river in Europe (+3km). This incredible natural attraction is located inside the San Jose Caves. And you won’t only be able to see it… you’ll get the chance to go across the river in a guide-driven boat route!
