The rise of remote work has made it easier than ever to live abroad while keeping your career on track. Spain, with its Mediterranean lifestyle and vibrant cities, has become a favorite among digital nomads looking for both quality of life and cultural immersion.
Gerald, a French software engineer, is one of them. After deciding to settle in Valencia, he found a way to balance his job with learning Spanish through Euroace’s extensive courses. His story offers a glimpse into what life can look like for international professionals making the move to Spain.

Could you briefly introduce yourself?
My name is Gerald, I’m from France, from the Burgundy region, and I’m 37 years old. Three years ago, I spent a few months in Valencia and took classes at Euroace. A few months ago, I decided to return, this time to live here long term, and I enrolled in the school again.
Why did you decide to move to Valencia?
I’m a software engineer and I work remotely most of the time, so I can do my job while traveling or living in different countries. I always wanted to live in another country and learn a new language. Spanish seemed like a good choice because it’s relatively easy to learn and is spoken in many places around the world. When I visited Valencia a few years ago, I really loved the city, so coming back was an easy decision.
Why did you choose Euroace to study Spanish?
The first time I was looking for both a Spanish school and a coworking space, and Euroace offered both. I really liked the classes because they are dynamic, fun, and give plenty of room for personal expression. That’s why, when I decided to return, I signed up again without hesitation.
What course are you currently taking?
I attend two classes per week, each lasting two hours, at B2 level. They take place in the evenings, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Do you think the classes have helped you improve your level?
Yes, absolutely. I also study on my own, but having regular classes keeps me motivated and pushes me to keep progressing.
How would you describe the teachers and the methodology?
Really good. The atmosphere is relaxed, the teachers are fun, and we often play games in class. I also studied Spanish in France, but those courses were much more boring. Here, time flies. Also, balancing work with studying Spanish hasn’t been too hard. I work in French, so I miss out on daily Spanish practice, but evening classes fit perfectly into my schedule. They help me improve without interfering with work.
What do you like most about living in Valencia?
I was looking for a big city, but not as big as Madrid or Barcelona. Valencia has the ideal size, a lot to offer, and a very pleasant atmosphere. I love the Turia Park, the City of Arts and Sciences, and of course, being so close to the sea.
Have you noticed cultural differences between France and Spain?
Yes. I feel that Spanish people are more relaxed, laid-back, and open. The good weather also makes a difference: people just seem happier.
What would you say is the hardest part of living in a country where you don’t fully master the language?
The hardest part is understanding and making yourself understood in more specific situations, like going to the doctor. For everyday things like shopping, there’s no problem, but in more technical contexts it becomes more challenging.
What advice would you give to other professionals or digital nomads who want to come to Spain?
I think it’s a great experience. I would recommend learning the language as much as possible and not being afraid to use it. It really helps to integrate into the city and enjoy the culture. And of course, take advantage of the opportunity to live in another country.
Gerald’s experience proves that you don’t need to put your career on hold to immerse yourself in a new culture. With just a few hours of Spanish lessons per week, he’s been able to progress in the language, meet new people, and enjoy everything Valencia has to offer.
At Euroace, we design Spanish courses that adapt to your lifestyle: whether you’re a digital nomad, a remote worker, or simply someone looking to make Spain feel like home.
