What Is the DELE exam like?
The DELE exam evaluates your Spanish language proficiency through four key skills. Each test is tailored to the specific requirements of the level you’re taking, ensuring an accurate measure of your abilities.
Four main skills assessed
- Reading Comprehension: You’ll read and interpret texts that match the complexity of your DELE level—from simple notices (A1) to nuanced articles and literary passages (C1–C2).
- Listening Comprehension: Test tasks include listening to everyday conversations, news broadcasts, or academic lectures. This section checks how well you understand spoken Spanish in real-life situations.
- Written Expression and Interaction: You’ll write letters, emails, or short essays, depending on your level. Advanced levels often involve more formal or argumentative writing to demonstrate higher language command.
- Oral Expression and Interaction: Engage in conversations, answer questions, or present a topic orally. This section measures fluency, pronunciation, and ability to interact effectively with native speakers.
Tailored to each level
Each level—A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2—has specific requirements, ensuring your exam content matches your language proficiency. As you advance, the tasks become more complex, covering a variety of topics and Spanish dialects.
Exam duration
Depending on the level, the total exam time can range from 2 to 5 hours. Higher levels generally include more comprehensive tasks, especially from B1 onwards, where you’ll encounter a wider variety of Spanish language styles and accents.
