Open Air Cinemas in Valencia: The Summer Plan for International Students

It’s summer in Spain and that tends to mean sun, heat and going from building to building trying to find some air conditioning. Valencia is known for its beach days, its summer festivals and for its tapas on sunny terraces, but there’s so many more things always going on.

So, if you’re wondering what to do in Valencia this August that’s affordable and helps you avoid the heat during the day the answer is clear: experience an open air cinema in Valencia.

So, grab your friends, bring a blanket, and let’s dive into the top open air cinema in Valencia this summer. It’s a chance to improve your Spanish, discover new places, and enjoy the warm Mediterranean nights in the most magical way.

Filmoteca d’Estiu – Palau de la Música (Turia Gardens)

If you’re looking for affordable plans in Valencia that also offer a cultural twist, the Filmoteca d’Estiu is a top pick. Located in the amazing Turia riverbed gardens, the lungs of Valencia, next to the Palau de la Música, it transforms a quiet corner of the city into a magical cinema beneath the stars.

Expect an expertly organized program which includes timeless classics, indie films, and international award-winners like Oppenheimer. You can enjoy all this from August 2 to 31, as films are screened almost nightly. Bring a picnic, meet friends, and enjoy an atmospheric night surrounded by palm trees. Plus, it’s a very accessible area of the city if you are moving by bus, and even metro.

It’s a fantastic way to practice your Spanish too, with films often shown in VOSE (original version with Spanish subtitles).

🎟️ Prices: 3.50€ per movie. Bonus: buy a 10 film pass for 25€.
🕒 Times: Doors at 21:30 h | Films start at 22:30 h
📍 Location: Pg. de l’Albereda, 30, El Pla del Real, Valencia

Terraza Lumière – Alboraya

Terraza Lumière in Alboraya is just a short metro ride from Valencia and is one of the oldest outdoor cinemas in the area, running for over 50 years. Here, you can watch two films per night with your friends, relax with food and drinks – as they have a bar area – and soak in a nostalgic, retro summery atmosphere.

Use Metro line 5 or 9 to get there easily. It’s safe and late-night friendly, however after 00:00 you will have to catch a taxi or cabify.

🎟️ Prices: 7€ most nights | 6€ on Wednesdays and Sundays (includes both movies!)
🕒 Times: Movies start at 22:00 h | Open until 03:00 h
📍 Location: C/ Dels Ferrers, nº 3, Alboraya

Cinema d’Estiu – L’Eliana

For a truly local experience, hop on the metro to L’Eliana and enjoy their municipal open air cinema, running since the 1970s. This cinema is peaceful, affordable and family-friendly. Located in a shaded park, this space offers a wide selection of movies, from Hollywood blockbusters to Spanish comedies and indie films.

Perfect if you’re tired of city crowds and want a quieter outing. Plus, it’s great if you’re going with family or have mobility needs as it’s fully equipped with ramps and green areas. However, if you are going by public transport (metro line 2) be warned that the last metro leaves at 23:20, so we recommend using a taxi or your own car.

🎟️ Prices: 3.50€ general
🕒 Times: Movies at 22:30 h | Open June 27 – August 31 (except July 5–17)
📍 Location: Terrassa d’estiu, l’Eliana

Autocine Star – Pinedo

Just like Terraza Lumiere, this open air cinema is a true summer Valencia classic. If you are looking for a different kind of open air cinema in Valencia, you should head to Autocine Star in Pinedo, just steps from the beach. This drive-in cinema lets you watch movies from your car or lay back in beach chairs under the stars. It’s different, fun, and will become your favorite for summer nights.

Open year-round, the venue ramps up in summer with double sessions and blockbuster movies. If you are going by public transport, you can rely on buses 24 and 25, active till 02:00 and 01:00 respectively.

🎟️ Prices: 6€ per person | Parking: 3€ (free on Wednesdays with discounted 5€ ticket)
🕒 Times: After sunset, depending on the week
📍 Location: Carrera del Riu, 407, Pinedo

Cine de Verano – La Rambleta – Open Air Cinema

Write this one down for next year as showings ended at the start of July, don’t miss it if you come back! They always say you need to leave something out of a visit so you have reasons to come back.

If you’re into arthouse cinema or want to meet locals with similar tastes, La Rambleta is your spot. This arts and culture center hosts a stylish open air cinema in Valencia on its terrace, complete with drinks, “bocadillos” (baguette sandwiches), and great views. Plus, it’s really well connected to public transport, so it’s a great place to go with classmates after Spanish lessons or internships.

It runs during three weeks in summer, from June 19 to July 12, and features movies from Europe, Spain, and beyond. While smaller than other venues, its ambiance and artistic programming make it stand out.

Use bus lines 9, 10, 99 and N6 (night bus) or metro lines 1 and 5 to get there fuss free.

🎟️ Prices: 7€ + 1,25€ with drink included | 10€ + 1,25€ “Pack Rambletero” (movie + food + drink)
🕒 Times: Movie starts at 22:00 h
📍 Location: Bulevar Sur, esq. Carrer Pío IX

Tips for International Students: Make the Most of Open Air Cinema in Valencia
