A Q&A with one of our Selectivity course students!
Today, we sat down to chat with Yassine, one of our students enrolled in our Selectivity course. Our selectivity course is both unique and innovative as it combines intensive Spanish language learning with comprehensive preparation for university entry exams. It also provides exceptional academic opportunities by encouraging our students to achieve their career goals whilst they also strengthen their language skills with us in Spain. Is there anything better that combining the two? We´ll let you decide that.
In our Q&A today, Yassine, from Morocco, shared his insights on his experience in the program, his progress in our Spanish language course and also a bit about his approach to studying for his upcoming exams. Keep reading to see his answers!
Hi Yassine, thank you for taking the time to sit down with me today. First of all, I wanted to ask how long you´ve been in Valencia and what you like most about the city?
Hi. It´s ok, no problem! I have been in Valencia for 4 months and it is actually my first time in a new country so it is special to me. My favourite thing about Valencia has to be the food, I really love the bocadillos (traditional Spanish sandwhiches) and also paella, that is my favourite. I came to Valencia specifically for this program so I could learn Spanish.
Wow, so it is an exciting trip then! How did you find out about our Selectivity course?
I didn´t know much about the course, it was my father who found out all of the information, from a friend or colleague of his and thats how we found out about EUROACE.
Did you know a bit of Spanish before you arrived? What was your main goal before starting the program?
I didn´t know any Spanish before coming here, nothing. I speak Arabic, French and English but I only knew basic things for Spanish, stuff like «hola» or «¿que tal?» so very very little. Now my level is much better and I know a lot of Spanish so the course has definitely been working for me.
What would you say you enjoy the most about our Spanish courses?
What I love the most is that the vibe is fun and I am always in classes that encourage a lot of learning and studying. I have met people with different nationalities from all over the world too. Each student has different traditions and cultures, that is something that I really love.
Do you think that your course so far has helped you prepare enough for your exams?
Yes, like I said, I didn´t know any Spanish before I came to Valencia and I first started with a 20 hour intensive course when I first came to the school. The course really helped me because I learnt Spanish fast. Now I am studying in another school preparing for my exams but I still take 6 hours of Spanish classes at EUROACE per week, so I can continue learning and strengthing my vocabulary.
I think it is very important that you get the chance to continue with your Spanish even after you finish the intensive course. Especially since you need to be confident before doing your exam to access your university studies. How do you find all of the studying, it must be a bit tiring, right?
Yes, in the other school I study for 4 hours on top of the 6 hours at EUROACE, so it is a lot of studying but I am really enjoying it and I know it will help me in the future.
You have a good attitude Yassine! That is really great. Talking about university, are you ready for your exams? What course do you want to study and what is the process like?
I still have a lot of studying to do and a lot of exams to prepare for. I want to do my university course in Programming but before I am accepted, I have to do some exams that are related to physics, technology, French and English so it isn´t just Spanish that I need to learn. This will help me both with my career and language skills so although it is hard, I am grateful to be studying through all of these courses.
How do you find the teachers and your classmates?
The teachers are one of the greatest things about the school because they are so kind and so lovely. All the lessons are very interactive so I am always talking, learning and socialising in class. There is always the chance to speak and improve. My classmates are very kind too and the class is a really good mix of people.
Thank you Yassine for speaking to us and we wish you all the best of luck for your exams!
