⁠This week, we’re taking a different approach with our Q&A by gathering insights from our internship supervisors. The main role of our internship supervisors is to work closely with our interns, they provide guidance and support throughout the internship experience. We sat down with one of them to hear about their experiences and learn how hosting interns has benefited their company.

How would you describe your experience working with international students?

Well, working with international students is especially interesting because they always bring new perspectives. They also bring a lot of energy to the organization.

Have international students added value to your company?
They always bring new and interesting points of view because we accept students from all over the world. Each one has opened our eyes to new cultures, customs and norms from their home country.

Has cultural diversity influenced the team dynamics in any way?
Our team is already very diverse, so they fit perfectly into the team dynamic, this is only another benefit of having interns working with us!

Do you think international students have improved the quality of the work done?
I believe they bring very important added value. It is true that it does take more time to train them up and explain everything, but they learn very important skills along the way and that helps them with their career goals too.

⁠Do you think the presence of international students has helped speed up project completion?
Yes, definitely. It does more than speed it up, they also offer new ways of approaching projects.

Were there any challenges related to communication or during the internship? How did you handle it?
Depending on the cultures, there are always some minor cultural clashes, but since our team is so diverse, we address them from within the cultures themselves and, if possible, with humor.

Would you recommend continuing to collaborate with international students in the future? Why?
I think it is essential to grow in quality, as bringing other methodologies and different rhythms greatly enriches the daily work. I also believe that new perspectives provide an evaluation of our own processes.

Many of our internship supervisors find that hosting interns brings plenty of benefits, from fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to great chances for culture immersion and language learning. Interns contribute to productivity, support ongoing projects, and often bring enthusiasm and a strong desire to learn.
