Inside our Spanish courses: A Q&A with past and present students
We know that choosing a language course can be tough – with so many options and considerations, its hard to know for sure that it will really be the right fit for you. To help you out a bit, we interviewed one of our past students and also one of our current students. They have both been exactly where you are right now and probably had the same questions running through their heads before enrolling in a Spanish course.
During our interview, they shared their personal experiences, talked about their relationships with both their teachers and classmates and answered some of the most common questions our students usually have before starting their EUROACE course. Ready to hear what they have to say? Keep reading below!
Our first interview was with Helena, who stayed in Valenica for a couple of months and enrolled in a Spanish course with her husband. They are both from the UK and are also big fans of Valencia! Lets see what she said..
1. Did you already have some knowledge of Spanish before you started your course?
We did have some knowledge yes, we actually learnt from a Spanish teacher and did one class per week for around 9 weeks. We also practised on Duolingo to keep up with the grammar.
2. Why did you decide to learn Spanish abroad? Why Valencia?
For the most part, we decided we needed a change after retirement and we really wanted better weather. Of course, in Valenica it is very sunny so we were happy with our choice. Another factor was that we wanted a bit of immersion. We also know someone in Valencia and two years ago we came for a holiday and loved it.
3. Was the information about our EUROACE courses helpful?
Yes, all of the information given was fine and it was definitely enough for us to make a solid decision about what course we wanted. We also didn´t want to study too much, so the 10 hour course was great and suited us well. We found all of the information online.
4. How was your relationship with the teachers at EUROACE? Did you get on with your classmates?
The overall experience was very positive. Teachers are very good indeed and the teaching and learning is great. Regarding our classmates, they were all so lovely, I would describe it as a bit of a family away from home. I particularly enjoyed the intergenerational element and it is good for everyone. The age range was anywhere from 18-60 years old. I would of liked to see more women in the class to help gender balance but our class was really lovely regardless.
5. What was your daily routine like? Did you like it?
I´d have to say that classes at 11am were the best. We could enjoy a slow morning and get up without any rush, have some breakfast in the center and then have lunch after. It was a nice schedule!
6. How would you describe the Spanish experience at EUROACE?
Very positive and very friendly, the team and teachers are great and supportive.
7. Did you participate in any of EUROACE´s cultural activities during your time at the school?
Yes, we participated in a free walking tour around the city center on the first day and we also attended the Thanksgiving party that was organised in EUROACE. That was great because we had the chance to talk to our classmates and meet other people. There was also a lot of food and drink from students who had brought traditional dishes from their home countries.
Our second interview was with Sami, who is currently enrolled in one of our selectivity courses. He is taking an intensive Spanish course with us which will then help him to prepare for his exams later on next year. He is from Morocco and answered some of our questions below:
1. Why did you decide to learn Spanish abroad? Why Valencia?
I chose to study abroad so I could learn a new language and Valencia in particular so I could continue with my studies. I saw that EUROACE offers selectivity courses which will help me with my studies and future career. I am really glad I chose Valencia, it is a great city to live and study in.
2. Did you already have some knowledge of Spanish before you started your course?
I didn´t know much Spanish but I am absolutely shocked at how fast I have learnt Spanish in such short time now. Even Spanish speakers are shocked at how quickly I learnt the language.
3. How did you find information about EUROACE?
My agent is actually the one who recommended the school but I eventually chose EUROACE because I saw all of the good reviews that the students had left online and I also liked that the school has a great reputation. So far it is going so well! I am really happy with everything.
4. How was your relationship with the teachers at EUROACE? Did you get on with your classmates?
I have to give credit to my teacher, Ana, she has really has helped us a lot and explained everything in class very clearly. My classmates really are the best, we are all a big group of friends and we get on so well. We have the chance to meet and study with people from all around the world.
5. What is your daily routine like? Do you like it?
Yes, it´s nice because I have classes in the morning from 9am-11am and also another class from 11am-1pm so I have the rest of the day to enjoy. The classes are sometimes long but there is always a break inbetween the two so we can grab a coffee and relax a bit.
6. Did you participate in any of EUROACE´s cultural activities during your time at the school?
Yes, I went to the Thanksgiving party with all of my classmates so that was really fun. We listened to music, tried some new food and drinks from all over the world and celebrated different cultures.
