A Q&A with one of our Online Internship students

Today our blog focuses on our students and their experiences with our programs. Onine internships have become a popular choice amongst interns interested in gaining experience who might not have a lot of time on their hands, so we took the opportunity to interview our student, Gabi, who connected to her Spanish based position from the U.S.

Gabi completed an online internship for 10 weeks. We organized a call with her to find out a bit more about how she benefited from the experience and what it was like to intern remotely with a Spanish company.

Hi Gabi! Firstly, thank you for taking the time to chat with us and answer all of our questions. Our main question and probably most obvious one is why did you choose to take an online internship?

Well the main reason was definitely so I could manage my time a bit better. I am in the middle of studying and there is a lot going on right  now, so I didn´t want to commit to a presencial internship when I knew I didn´t have the time. The internship being online also made it convenient and safe, which was a priority for me. Although I would of liked to travel somewhere new and immerse myself in the culture, it was very comfortable for me to plan out my days effectively and save time on commutes.

It sounds great! There is nothing better than being able to organise your time and still have some time left to commit to other plans and studies. Please tell us more about your internship program and your internship position.

I was placed with a Spanish pet food company and my job basically consisted of a few different tasks, it mainly focused on understanding marketplaces, calculating product profitability, and inputting new products to be sold on new marketplaces. The position involved varied responsibilities and overall I´d say it helped me to better understand the international market and the different elements of online sales.

It sounds interesting to say the least! Would you say the internship was what you expected?

My internship placement has definitely exceeded my expectations so far! Actually, I didn´t think it would be so reactive and that I would socialise so much, considering I am in a different country and sometimes communicating can be hard with the different timezones. I was pleasantly surprised because my supervisor has been very helpful and has allowed me to take the lead on some projects. In the 10 weeks i’ve been interning remotely I have been able to accomplish far more than I thought I would be able to. It has been really enjoyable and definitely worth it.

Talking a bit more about your supervisor, would you say you received a lot of support from him during the 10 weeks?

Yes, I have received a lot of support and guidance from my supervisor. We meet about once a week to discuss what I should be working on throughout the week, but he is always available to answer any questions through email, messaging, or phone calls so I don’t feel as far away from the company as I actually am in distance!

That’s good to hear, it is always nice to be in the loop and feel supported, especially when you´re doing something completely new! Would you recommend an Online Internship with EUROACE to your friends / fellow students?

I would recommend an online internship to my friends, especially now that technology has advanced so much and there are a number of resources to help you. There are options for almost every interest which I found very attractive. Not to mention it’s a great use of the time I have left after studying.

What advice would you give to any future student looking to take a Remote Internship like you?

I would tell a future student who wants to intern to see every task given to you by your supervisor as an opportunity to gain skills and experience. If your supervisor sees that you are productive in getting your work done and are detail-oriented, they are likely to give you projects that require more responsibility. It’s really all about the effort and concentration you put into it.

Again, thank you so much for your time and we hope to be able to welcome you in person the next time! All the best Gabi!
