Outdoor cinemas to enjoy this summer in Valencia!

For any cinema lovers, whether it be action, crime, horror, romance or basically any genre out there, Valencia is set to host an exciting series of outdoor cinema events this summer with the 2024 edition of the Filmoteca d’Estiu, organized by the Institut Valencià de Cultura (IVC).

From August 2 to 31, the Palau de la Música Gardens will transform into a captivating open-air cinema, offering a unique blend of entertainment and culture under the stars. During the summer months, going to indoor cinemas may not be as appealing as most people prefer to spend their time outdoors, enjoying the sun right up until the evening. This is why Valencia´s outdoor cinemas are perfect for those who want to relax and unwind but still enjoy the hot summer evenings and nights.

Our blog this week tells you all about Valencia´s outdoor cinemas and gives you all the details about how to enjoy them!

What to expect from the Filmoteca d’Estiu

This year, the Filmoteca d’Estiu moves from its traditional venue at the Rialto to the scenic Turia Gardens, enhancing the cinematic experience with a picturesque backdrop. The program is thoughtfully curated into three distinct cycles: Cinephile Anniversaries, a tribute to the classics; Olivier Assayas, featuring the works of the renowned French filmmaker; and Award Winners, showcasing some of the most celebrated films of the past season.

The screenings will start at 10:30 pm and you can jump to get your tickets as early as 9:30 pm. Tickets are priced at an affordable 3.5€ each, or moviegoers can opt for a 10-session pass for 25 euros. Tickets can be purchased online through the Filmoteca d’Estiu website or in person, (subject to availability of course).

Valencia’s Filmoteca d’Estiu offers a delightful way to enjoy award-winning films and timeless classics in a beautiful outdoor setting, making it a must-visit event for cinema enthusiasts and casual viewers alike.

Free outdoor cinema experience at the CCCC

The Centre del Carme de Cultura Contemporània (CCCC) continues to thrive with its vibrant cultural agenda, offering an unmissable event for cinema lovers this August. Starting Thursday, August 1, the CCCC will host a free outdoor cinema series, transforming its Gothic cloister into a stunning open-air movie theater.

This marks the sixth edition of the initiative, where comedy and humor will take center stage from Tuesday to Sunday at 10:00 p.m. Following a focus on European films in 2023, this year’s spotlight shifts to America. The program, titled «Embriagados de Humor» (Intoxicated by Humor), will feature 27 comedies from nine American countries, running until Saturday, August 31.

The films, hailing from Peru, Cuba, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Canada, and the United States, will be screened in five languages (Spanish, Quechua, French, English, and Portuguese) in their original versions with subtitles.

This cycle highlights the rich cultural diversity of America, moving beyond Hollywood’s dominance in the comedy genre. While only four of the scheduled films have been nominated for Oscars, the majority have been recognized at prestigious film festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Sundance, San Sebastián, Biarritz, Deauville, Karlovy Vary, and Mar del Plata.

The series will kick off on August 1 with the Argentine comedy «Mi obra maestra,» a satire of the art world featuring a declining painter and his loyal art dealer. It will conclude on August 31 with «Shiva Baby» by Emma Seligman, a comedy set in New York that explores generational and cultural tensions within the Jewish community.

Enjoy outdoor cinemas on Valencia´s beaches

Valencia is also bringing its outdoor cinema experiences to its coastline this summer with an outdoor cinema series on the beach. This unique event offers moviegoers the opportunity to enjoy films under the stars with the gentle sound of waves in the background, creating a more than memorable evening.

The beach cinema series will feature a diverse selection of films, catering to various tastes and preferences.
