4 Great ways to keep healthy this Summer!

Summer in Valencia is synonymous with sun, sea, and an abundance of outdoor activities. Even during the colder months, there is always a lot going on in the city and there is every opportunity to get moving and be physical.

Whether you’re a local or just visiting, this vibrant city offers a plethora of opportunities to stay active and healthy – with one of the best things being that most activities are free or very economic.

Here’s your ultimate guide to keeping fit during the Summer months as we offer you 4 great ways to take advantage of the Valencian Summer and keep moving in the meantime.

Explore the Turia gardens

The Turia Gardens (Jardín del Turia) is a 9-kilometer long park that runs through the heart of Valencia. As one of the biggest urban parks in Spain, this green oasis offers numerous opportunities for fitness enthusiasts and locals who like to immerse themselves in both nature and green spaces once in a while.

Cycling: Rent a bike and explore the Turia’s extensive cycling paths. It’s a great way to cover a lot of ground while enjoying the lush surroundings. Dedicated bike lanes ensure a safe and enjoyable ride through various landscapes.

Running: The park’s well-maintained paths are perfect for running. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced runner, you’ll find a route that suits your pace.

Outdoor Gyms: Scattered throughout the park are various outdoor gym facilities. Use the equipment for a full-body workout amidst nature.

You can also enjoy the Turia’s rugby and football fields, skate parks and exercise stations. There are also spaces for picnics and breaks so you can bring plenty of drinks and snacks after a hard day of exercise!

Take Advantage of Outdoor Classes

During the summer, Valencia’s parks and beaches become hubs for outdoor fitness classes. From yoga to Zumba, there’s something for everyone.

Yoga: Join a sunrise or sunset yoga class on the beach. It’s a wonderful way to improve flexibility and mental well-being while enjoying the calming sea breeze.

Fitness Bootcamps: For a more intense workout, look for fitness boot camps that use the natural landscape for a variety of exercises.

Dance Classes: Dance is a fun way to stay fit. Check out local listings for outdoor salsa, bachata, or flamenco classes.

The Municipal Sports Foundation will transform Malvarrosa Beach into a hub of free sports activities, offering citizens and tourists the opportunity to stay fit in an unparalleled coastal setting.

From July 1st to September 30th, the municipal beach volleyball facility will host various sessions of yoga, Pilates, tai chi, Latin fitness, cross training, GAP, and physical conditioning, catering to all ages and skill levels. These one-hour classes will be held from Monday to Sunday during times of lower sun exposure to ensure participant safety. What are you waiting for? Get down to the beach!

Explore Valencia by Foot

Walking is one of the simplest ways to stay active, and Valencia’s rich cultural heritage makes it a joy to explore on foot. Here are just some of the ways you can enjoy the city and stay fit at the same time:

Historical Walking Tours: Join a guided walking tour to learn about Valencia’s history while getting your steps in.

Self-Guided Tours: Create your own walking route through the city’s charming neighborhoods, such as El Carmen, and visit iconic landmarks like the City of Arts and Sciences.

Hit the Beaches

You can’t mention Summer without the word beach so we saved the best until last. One of the more classic ways to keep fit and healthy during the Summer months has to involve a beach day, right? Here are some ways to stay fit whilst catching some rays:

Swimming: Start your day with a refreshing swim in the Mediterranean Sea. It’s a great full-body workout and a perfect way to cool off.

Beach Volleyball: Many of Valencia’s beaches have volleyball nets set up. Gather some friends and engage in a friendly match.

Running or Walking: The long stretches of sand are perfect for a morning jog or an evening stroll. The beachfront promenades are also great for a scenic run.
