Keeping up with your Spanish over the holidays!

With the holidays just around the corner, here are some top tips to keep up with your Spanish during the holiday season!

Get organized

The end of the year and start of a new year is the perfect time to get organized! Sorting through your Spanish notes is a great way to go over what you have learnt, but also to put these notes into more manageable files.

Try making flashcards, summarizing key points in a new notebook, or even creating a vocab book so all the new words you need to learn are in one place. Choose the best method for you. Time is one thing you have over the break, so best put it to good use!

Series and movies

First things first, you don’t have to feel bound to your study books and revision guides, especially if they turn you off studying altogether. It’s your holidays so some part of your studying should be fun and break the routine!

Watching Spanish series or movies are a great way to enjoy your break but keep your ear trained to Spanish accents, words, and pronunciation. Some of our favorite movies we recommend are El Laberinto del Fauno and Diarios de Motocicleta.

Podcasts

Podcasts are an accessible and easy way to keep up with your Spanish progress over the break. You can set yourself a certain time or period of the day in which you listen to your daily 20 minutes of Spanish. This could be while you do some house chores, while you’re driving or even while you’re exercising. Choose a moment of the day and stick to it! It’s effective for progressing your listening skills as well as learning about a variety of topics in a second language.

Music

Everyone loves music and Spanish music is particularly diverse and catchy! There’s flamenco, reggaeton, rap, salsa, merengue, rock and of course pop music too. Check out some Spanish artists in your favorite music genres and learn their songs. It will definitely aid your listening abilities by training your ear to sounds and rhythms while also helping you get more familiar with Spanish culture too.

Planning ahead

Use your time wisely these holidays to plan your Spanish learning in 2023. If studying abroad has been on the cards for you or you would like to visit Spain, check out your options. Book on a Spanish course, arrange to stay with a host family or even take a professional internship in your second language if you really want to test yourself!
