Yesterday we celebrated International Museum Day! So we thought, why not bring you all the best that Valencia has to offer!

Fortunately we got to celebrate International Museum Day in Valencia this year as our region is currently ranked the lowest in Spain and all of Europe for Covid-19 infection rates.

L’Almoina

Located behind the Basílica de Valencia and accessible from the beautiful Plaza del la Virgen, this museum is one of the most surprising the city has to offer. Under the Plaza Décimo Junio Bruto, the local government began an archeological excavation in1985. Nowadays visitors can find remains from the Roman age, including two of the main roads or vías, as well as patios, wells, and baths! Archeologists continue working on it so this museum really is a continuous discovery site in the heart of the city!

Museo de las Ciencias

This museum makes up part of the renowned City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia. Its a center for science and technology education thanks to an abundance of interactive projects and exhibitions. When you visit the City of Arts and Sciences you can opt for a single ticket only for the Science Museum or you can add extra activities to your ticket like l’Hemisfèric or l’Oceanogràfic. Its a fun and educational day out for all the family!

IVAM

IVAM stands for Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno a.k.a the Valencian Institute of Modern Art. This museum opened in 1989 and is located on Calle Guillem de Castro. Its main goal is to strengthen and spread the joy of art from XX^th Century. Inside youll find several galleries displaying various temporary exhibitions and also a permanent collection with around 12,000 pieces from Spanish and international artists across this time period. Fun fact: the IVAM has an underground gallery where you can see a long section of the old Wall that surrounded the city in the Middle Ages!

Museo Fallero

Our city has to have a museum dedicated exclusively to our main annual festival, Las Fallas. As you may already know from our many Fallas blog posts, each year Fallas are burnt on day of the Cremà as part of the celebrations of the Fallas festival. But not every piece!

Every Fallas festival includes the Exposició del Ninot where the public go to vote for their favorite pieces of artwork: from both the adult and childs competitions. The two winning pieces are saved from the fries at te end of the festival and housed in the museum. You can see all the winning pieces from the best monuments since the year 1934! The museum is located in Plaza de Monteolivete, nº4, what are you waiting for?

Museo Nacional de Cerámica

The stunning building known as Palacio del Marqués de Dos Aguas hosts this museum. On the second floor youll find the National Ceramics Museum which exhibits important ceramic pieces from all the ages. The most impressive part of this museum is its facade and the main door, decorated with voluptuous figures made from alabaster.
