Why Study Abroad in Valencia?

If you’re checking out your options on which study abroad destination to choose, let us introduce you to Valencia! A city that has become very popular with exchange students over recent years, here’s an insight into what makes Valencia so special and why it is a worthwhile travel and study abroad destination …

Let’s go to the Beach!

Valencia is a coastal city in Spain. The beaches in this region are exquisite, not to mention that they are located on the Mediterranean Sea, which has an amazing temperature across the summer months. The city has two amazing beaches, known as Malvarrosa and Patacona, which are easily accessible as they are very close to urban areas. You can easily reach them by a short bus or tram ride, making this city a perfect summer destination!

Local Delicacies

Valencia is home to the most famous Spanish dish, La Paella. Valencia is where you can find the most authentic version of this dish in Spain. The surrounding farmland is where the rice is from and this makes it a local specialty! As well as Paella, there are many other spectacular rice dishes to try. Another local delicacy is Horchata. Also made here in Valencia, it is a unique drink that is very refreshing during the warmer weather.

Amazing Architecture

Valencia has done a perfect job of mixing modern futuristic architecture with its historical buildings. Its most famous architectural tourist attraction is the beautiful City of Arts and Sciences, designed by Santiago Calatrava. This building hosts a science museum and an art gallery, as well as an underground iMAX cinema! It is a fantastic cultural center full of scientific, cultural and educational activities for all the family. Right next to this you can find Valencia’s Aquarium, known as L’Oceanogràfic. It is the biggest aquarium in Europe and among the Top 10 in the world, while also known for its unique architecture as well!

Valencia also has some breathtaking buildings in the Old Town, with the Catedral de Santa María and La Lonja de la seda as two of the main ones. The Old Town of Valencia is a delight to explore and discover various architectural styles.

Sun Sun Sun

Valencia is one of the cities with the most sunshine in Europe! The city offers approximately 300 days of sun per year with an average temperature of almost 18º, having arguably the best weather in Spain due to its prime geographical location. The weather makes a big difference to outdoor activities that can be done all year round, and to the mood and vibe of the city!

The Locals

Last but not least, the local people here are extremely friendly and full of life. If you stay with a host family during your study abroad program, you will get to experience this at first hand. Spanish people in general are very friendly and welcoming towards internationals, seen as much of this nation’s business is based on tourism! Therefore, if you want to practice your Spanish skills or make new friends, Valencia is a great city to come to!
