Why Should I Study Abroad?

Why study abroad? Well, to put it simply: to discover the world and to discover yourself. Studying abroad is truly a life-shifting experience. There are personal, academic, and even career benefits of studying abroad.

Studying abroad won’t be all rainbows and sunshine. But the challenges you’ll face will help you grow.  Honestly, from my personal experience, it’s a chance worth taking and totally worth it.

I will share with you just 6 reasons why I would definitely recommend this experience.

1. Discover the World

One of the main reasons to consider studying abroad program is the opportunity to see the world. By studying abroad, you will experience a brand new country with new landscapes, a new way of life, and new cuisine and customs.

In addition, when you’re abroad, you won’t be limited to traveling in just the country in which you are studying – you can see neighboring countries as well! For example, if you study in Valencia, Spain,  you’ll have the option to travel through various parts of the country like the capital Madrid for its astonishing imperial buildings, or to Barcelona to see the architectural masterpieces of Antonio Gaudi. Besides you would get to travel to key locations in Europe including London , Berlin and Paris within just a couple of hours flight time away.

2. Experience Another Culture

Many of you who choose to study abroad will be leaving their home for the first time. When you arrive in your new host country, you will be fascinated by the distinct cultural perspectives. When you study abroad you will find incredible new foods, customs, and traditions. You will find cultural differences and will as well see your country and traditions from a different perspective. Being in a new place by yourself can be overwhelming at times, and it tests your ability to adapt to diverse situations while being able to problem solve.

3. Meet New friends and Discover Diversity

If you are still questioning why to study abroad, you should know that studying in a different country offers many new activities and interests that you may never have discovered at home. You will be amazed how many new people you will meet in a very short time, locals as well as foreigners that are just like you, new to the place but coming from all over the world, each with their own story, character and culture. You will be making connections, and some of those connections will be maintained for a long time, and you can benefit from them at a later stage both from a personal and professional perspective.

4. Improve your Language Skills

When you decide to study abroad, you can be sure you are going to improve your language skills. If you are going to study in Spain, it is a great chance to start a Spanish language course along with whatever else you’re doing while there to take advantage of your time in the country! Learning a language through immersion is by far the fastest way to improve languages skills (and the most fun!) By the time you finish your stay you will be speaking two highly demanded languages – English and Spanish!

5. Boost your Career Opportunities

No matter if you go abroad to improve your language skills, or to do an internship abroad, this experience will fit very well on your CV. Nowadays, companies are much more eager to consider people with experience abroad. Wherever you decide to work, the experience abroad will reward you and give you a huge competitive advantage in terms of finding a job, in comparison with people who decided not to do it.
