Faculty Interview: Custom High School Program

If you are part of the faculty of a High School or a University and you are considering bringing your students to Spain, this blog could help you to make the right decisions!

We talked to a faculty member who recently brought a group of High School students from the UK to Valencia. They took part in one of our Custom programs and made the most of their experience with us in Valencia doing a whole host of activities. Fernando, the Spanish teacher and Faculty supervisor, has been working with us for many years bringing student groups to Valencia for bespoke programs. So we took the time to ask him a few questions about our programs to give you a better idea if it’s something you choose in the future!

1. Why did you choose Valencia as a destination for your Custom Program?

Valencia is the perfect destination for a group of students, firstly because of its geographical situation and climate. It is very handy for these reasons and it also has plenty of life and character, and a full variety of interesting activities to do.

2. What did your Custom Program entail?

Our program consisted primarily of Spanish language and cultural activities. The students took Spanish lessons during the mornings and a variety of cultural, gastronomical and historical activities as well as visits during the afternoons and evenings. It was a perfect balance between education and recreation for the students.

3. Describe a typical day for your students during their study abroad program.

Our students started the Spanish lessons at 9:00am and finished at 1:00pm every day with a break around 11:00am. We had a personalized program focusing on our preparation for the GCSE and IGSE exams, so this was really helpful for their learning and helped to motivate them.
After having a typical lunch in the city, we started the afternoon activities, consisting of a bike tour or a visit to the Oceanographic or a paella course or a guided tour or a visit to Mestalla stadium, etc…
During the late afternoons we had some time to go shopping and rest and in the evenings we had a traditional tapas dinner followed by a flamenco show. Every day was filled with Spanish and culture, which was great for the children to maximize their experience.

4.What extra activities or trips did your students partake in during their program?

We had a personalized full program planned in advance with no time for extra activities.

5. What activities did the students take part in where they could interact with local people or other international students?

Students were constantly interacting with local people during the day and practicing Spanish, for example in the Oceanographic or the guided tours or the Mestalla tour or when they went shopping.
During the morning they had the possibility of talking to different students from all over the the world at the Euroace school.

6. What were the advantages of taking your students on a study abroad program with Euroace?

The main advantages are that Euroace is very flexible and they can provide us with a personalized program. This way we can change or add any activity or visit, depending on availability, during the visit. Also Euroace organizes the whole program, from lessons to accommodation and activities and visits, so this means we don’t have to worry about any of this. The staff are very friendly and one of their team is always with us which is really helpful and assuring.

7. What were the students favorite parts of the program?

Students have different opinions and preferences but in general the favorite activities are: the bike tour, the paella course, the tapas dinner, the flamenco show and the boat trip on the Albufera lake.

8. Is there any advice you’d give to other staff leaders before embarking on a Custom Program to Valencia?

Valencia is a fabulous city, very safe, quite small and you can do thousands of things. I would definitely recommend it because it is easy to move around, especially with a large group of students. Try to do as much as possible and simply enjoy it as much as you can!
